Marilyn Scott-Waters, a native Californian, spent the majority of her career working for someone else.   However, six years ago, she was laid off after a merger from her clothing design job -- an inspiration-crushing existence churning out high performance motorcycle apparel.  She took the news in stride and decided to look at her situation as an opportunity to do something different.

While Marilyn was a successful businesswoman and could have been back at work just about anywhere she wanted, she finally listened to her heart and was lucky enough to make the choice to spend more time with her family.  This also allowed her to start using her art and design skills for projects she enjoyed.

While spending the last several years freelancing on various product design projects, the world of "The Toymaker" eventually evolved from her Baker Street home studio. This idea, which included numerous graphics, animations, story snippets and paper toys, took on a life of its own and soon led to thetoymaker.com.  With the overwhelming success of the web-site, and at the request of many of the site's visitors, Marilyn decided to publish her very own book of designs, entitled: "The Toymaker: Folded Paper Toys You Can Make Yourself.”

Marilyn says she is happy to have a business whose main purpose is to bring a little innocent joy into the life of children without any ulterior motives.  And to make a living by getting parents and kids to slow down and spend some quality time together is priceless, as she is able to do just that with her own family.
