Katrin Mueller, one of the world’s most endearing bear makers, has been creating unique, hand-made bears for over ten years. Her signature long neck and short-legged bears are the most widely imitated and collected the world over.
Katrin’s very first bear, “Cord,” was made for herself and still occupies a place of honor in her own personal showcase. She fell in love with “Cord,” and he was soon followed by a series of bears made as Christmas gifts for her family.
While she was already well-known for creating small, hand-painted pottery for bears and dolls, she decided to try her hand at creating her own teddy bears. In 1995, she attended her first commercial events; the Nurnberg Toy Fair and the Teddy Bear Total Exhibition in Germany. Her unusual bears, made of only the finest materials, featured unique costumes and accessories and were an instant success.
In 2000, Katrin was asked to produce a small number of bears with world-renowned teddy bear manufacturer Hermann Teddy Original. Each year she designs a limited number of bears to be produced by the company.
Today, Katrin continues to experiment with unusual bear sizes,
costumes and hand-painted patterns. Katrin’s pioneering use of color, using only plant-based products to hand-die the genuine mo-hair she uses, consistently sparks new trends in bear-making.
